Our Students

On this page are profiles of some of the Internet Professional program's exceptional students and graduates.

Patty Bradley

Patty Bradley is a native of Cassopolis, in southwest Michigan. She came to WCC when, as she says, "I was in a career-slump with one long-range plan: tolerate my boring University of Michigan job until I could retire." That was three years ago. "In February of 2002," she continues, "I interviewed for the position of Web Administrator at the School of Public Health, University of Michigan. They were looking for someone who could develop in ColdFusion (a web database application programming language), and I was able to prove to them that I could by showing them my class project for INP 275. In fact, I was able to show them a whole portfolio of class projects, thanks to the Internet Professional Program. My experience standing up in front of my fellow students presenting class projects helped me feel at ease and confident in myself. ... There is no doubt that I got the job because of the Internet Professional Program."

Rick Clark

Rick Clark graduated from Ann Arbor's Pioneer High School several years ago, and has spent most of his life in southeastern Michigan except for a few years in Florida working in the printing and publishing business. Rick says, "I firmly believe the Internet, in some form, will be where all business eventually will be conducted. So, I decided to seek an Associate's degree in applied computer science as an Internet Professional. I decided on WCC after looking over the curriculum and hearing how highly respected the instructors are." Although he's still in the program, he tells us, "I am currently building my own website development company, called Rick Clark Enterprises. I'm creating complete packages for my customers, from graphic design and database integration, to code writing. Through networking at WCC I have developed a relationship with a local Web design company in Manchester. We are in the process of developing a marketing campaign due out shortly."

Bonnie Hotmer

Bonnie Hotmer, a long-time resident of southeast Michigan, was initially attracted to the INP program because "it allows me to exercise my creativity as well as my more technical, logical side". An employee of the University of Michigan, Bonnie appreciated the easy accessibility of the WCC campus and that encouraged her to keep taking classes over the years. She graduated in December 2004 with the INP Associate of Applied Science degree, as well as multiple INP advanced certificates. Bonnie credits the practical experience gained from creating real client websites in INP 290 as the single most valuable aspect of the program because "it mirrored the real world; everything we did in the class is exactly what you do out there". Bonnie is currently doing a variety of freelance web development work, in addition to her web design and administrative responsibilities at the University of Michigan. She is also actively pursuing web design projects with small businesses throughout Michigan and Ohio.

Julie Kimber

Julie Kimber hails from the Portland, Maine area. She was attracted to the INP program by "the opportunity to receive top-quality, practical, and affordable instruction, specifically in the field of Web design." Here, she found "the instructors were knowledgeable and dedicated," there were networking opportunities, and she enjoyed "taking classes with people of all ages and backgrounds." Julie says, "I started out knowing nothing about Web design; in a short amount of time I had developed a challenging and exciting new job skill." Having graduated in May, 2002, she provides Web development services on a contract basis for nonprofits and small business. She seems well on her way to her dream: "To become a successful small business owner."

Suityin Lee

Suityin Lee, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, earned her Internet Professional Certificate in Design in May, 2002. She's crafting websites for the University of Michigan Hospital - in fact, her site interface re-design for one of the departments won high acclaim from department managers. She says she enjoyed INP's "design classes, latest software, computer facilities & helpful lecturers". Wondering about entering the INP program? Suityin thinks it's a "great program for this future technology communication world!"

Derick Montague

Derick Montague enrolled at WCC shortly after relocating to Ann Arbor from Kalamazoo, Michigan. With a strong interest and some experience with web design he thought the INP Program could be a great opportunity for an exciting future. Shortly after completing the Web Technology Certificate he was hired as a Front-End Developer for Title Source, Inc., one of the nation's largest online title companies. He feels that without "the knowledge, professionalism, and dedication of the instructors" this incredible opportunity may not have been possible. "I learned the importance of web standards, the processes involved in web development, and the principles of web design through practical application. These classes are not easy, but they offer the rewards of a promising future in web development for those that apply themselves. It is an incredible program."
